That letter from CEL is dated 19th July 2022, which is within the period you were allowed to file a Defence.

As discussed earlier, and mentioned again in your most recent post, your deadline for filing a Defence was 4pm on 20th July 2022.

It is totally wrong that CEL can send a letter like that before the defence filing deadline.

Check the Claim Number and PCN Reference on that letter to ensure that letter is actually referring to the same Claim.

1 hour 3 minutes and 50 seconds later...

CCBC have confirmed that I have done everything right and within my deadlines. My defence has been filed and sent to CEL.

I definitely do not have a CCJ and CEL should not have sent a letter stating otherwise, especially before my filing deadline.

Can anything be done about them jumping the gun like that? My heart has been pounding like crazy.

Complain to CEL, and their "legal team" and the BPA and your MP, and of course the landowner, reminding them they are responsible for the actions if their unregulated sub-contractor they have employed.

You were sensible enough to check that this was a bogus CCJ. How many others would simply panic and pay.

You should ensure the court is made aware of this and I hope the judge will take a dim view of their actions.

I'd include that letter as an exhibit with the witness statement - the Judge will be unimpressed with CEL.

I'll get those complaints raised this evening... once I've caught up with my work 🙈

It frightened the life of of me! I've been working so hard on my credit report after a financially abusive relationship as well.
I'll definitely be making the judge aware of the letter. What a horrible game to play with innocent people.
  • VICTORY!!! I got my witness statement in and passenger sent their witness statement in too. Deadline for filing was today.

I got home from work to a notice of discontinuance from CEL today😁

    Never give up!!!

    Brilliant news!

    ANOTHER DISCONTINUANCE.

ANOTHER CEL ONE BITES THE DUST!

And we sincerely hope that you are au fait with the need to respond to the final Government Public Consultation. Hopefully - amongst all the political disruption - it will be open later this year and at least by January, we hope.

Just checking you are among those ready to respond to the questions as you have personal experience of how this crap feels?

Please come back here when it opens, and you can make sure you don't miss the Consultation:

This will be your only chance to influence the law.
