If you achieve nothing else, you will give staff at Trading Standards a laugh. Several people here have already explained some of the multitude of factors which can affect how far the paint will go. Don't waste your time and, more importantly, the time of Trading Standards staff.

I've gone to Citizens Advice who have advised. I'll update here in due course.
Thanks for all helpful responses.0 -
'wasting Trading Standards time' with a case of poor trading standards!
That reminds me of the RAF warehouse story.
FO : 'Could I have a cardboard box please' Attendant : 'I've only got one left. And someone might need it' !!1 -
Coverage of 62.5% of the claim - while "some" is still in the tin. Some? 5%? 10%? How much came out of the rollers and brushes when cleaned - 5%? How much did it soak in to the walls reducing coverage - 20%?I suspect paint manufactures spread a very thin coat onto a sheet of glass when they measure coverage. My washing powder states it will do 50 washes, my pizza claims it serves 2, East Enders claims to be entertainment.Trading Stds are going to be busy.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.2

A very nice man from Trading Standards just called. Couldn't get him off the phone.
I forgot that I bought the tester for the paint and 2 coats of that gave an excellent cover. Surely it's not possible that they're putting better-quality paint in the tester?!0 -
Be interested to hear the outcome of this.0

ripple34 said: 'Up to 32 sq m' while it actually covers 20 sq m is no good to me. 62.5% of what I was promised?!!
However I applied it it should be better than that. Nowhere does it say 'but coverage depends on how you apply it and if you're a rubbish decorator you'll be disappointed/ripped off'I recently purchased a tin of Dulux Trade Weathershield. It states on the tin that it will give up to 15m² per litre depending on surface. I know from experience that a brush will give better coverage than a roller and I may well more than two coats. All factored in when deciding on the size of tin purchased. If I want maximum coverage, I'd use an industrial spray gun, but I don't have a compressor big enough, so it will have to be a brush.

Ripple , this is from Dulux website - https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/products/dulux-light-space-matt - Coverage Up to 13m2/litre
There - it does not say that it will cover 32 m2, it says that it might cover UP to 32 m2. I understand your consternation but a wee bit of common sense goes a long way with things like these.... It was explained earlier that under controlled ideal conditions it can possibly cover that much, the biggest variable will always be suction and smoothness of the wall so on every tin of paint ( dulux or any and every other )will be stated coverage UP to. Instead of wasting time money and effort with Trading standards get another tin of paint and you can have your wall decorated in couple of hours and forget about it all.0 -
