Hi, I'm looking to switch to Scottish Power who have a Flexi Price tariff (1 & 2 year). They have noted their website with ' The price of energy we supply you is fixed, protecting you from rising wholesale energy costs. The tariff also includes variable costs which are linked to external industry costs that can go up or down each quarter during the term of your tariff. Find out more about the variable costs'

With the variable element I'm trying to figure out if it's worth switching to them or not..
I'm currently with Shell and pay £380 a month, Scottish Power have offered £407.93 for a 2 year deal and £402.94 for a 1 year deal.

Sorry, but there is no chance in hell those amounts are based on the same usage (estimates). You will not get any fixed tariff that is only 5% more expensive than the current SVT.

Did you give SP your usage data or did they just an estimate?

What was your gas and electricity usage over a 12 months period? What are your current rates, and what has been offered for one of the deals (difference is so small it makes no diffeence, except od course they have used different estimates).

My EST yearly consumption is as follows:
    Gas - 24,300
    Electricity - 4,800
Having re-looked into the quote SP THEIR estimate usage is as follows
    Gas - 17,816
    Electricity - 4,898

can you post the rates you have been offered and your current rates?

It still looks very cheap. 6500KWh additional at 12p would be 65£ more per month. That would be 24% over SVT, extremely cheap for a fix for new customers.

But your £380 still looks wrong, it should be more like £280. Or do you have outstanding debt?

The deal is a whopping 70.66% more expensive than the current SVT and £415 per year more expensive than the predicted new SVT.
