Do I Pay whilst waiting for conciliation service

Hi there
I'm hoping this is in the correct place.
After breaking down the AA told me that I needed a new alternator and fitted one at a cost of over £500. I then broke down just over an hour later with the same problem so I am contesting that I didn't need a new alternator. (Main dealer later found a faulty wire)
Do I pay the bill whilst waiting for the conciliation service to investigate? Or is there a way to stall the AA involving a debt collector whilst this is happening?
Thanks for any input

I wasn't aware that the AA did chargeable repairs (beyond supplying batteries)? Maybe I am wrong but who exactly had billed you £500?Evaperk said:Hi there

Also, even if it was needed, does this not seem an excessive price? I would have expected maybe £200 plus half an hour's labour to change?
Have whoever this is agree to be bound by the decision of whatever conciliation service you have agreed to use? If so then surely the bill should be put on hold until they report.1 -
I did check the price with euro car parts for that particular alternator and it was the correct price.Undervalued said:

Yes the AA gave me the name of the conciliation service so they have signed up for it. I don't think the parts billing department talk to anyone else though ad although I'm loathe to pay it, getting a refund is more unlikely than them waiving the fee I fear, I also don't want them handing it to a debt collector.0 -
I'd certainly be loath to pay. However, I can't see that a conciliation service are going to have enough evidence to assist one way or the other. Do you have the old alternator?0

They've been doing chargeable repairs for a while, but I believe it's offered as a side business by each driver. Had a similar issue, luckily opted not to use them as I was close to home and they quoted £200 more than anyone else.Undervalued said:
