We have a large family holiday booked and our insurer AIG says it covers Covid claims but online advice suggest they’d require a certified PCR. NHS no longer performing these and I can’t see if you have symptoms Boots or other provider would want you in their premises, even if you were prepared to go.  What am I missing? Any experience of this? Thanks.

Their advice may change, but if it doesn't it means you need to track down a PCR test.

Either from someone who had an NHS one sent to them previously and has no use for it or by paying privately. You can do them by post if you don't want to infect someone's premises, though remember all the NHS testing stations took people who could have had covid and used appropriate precautions.

I have just bought a single trip policy. The notes on Covid say that a cancellation due to a positive test will require proof from a private provider. Not sure what happens if you have symptoms on the departure day and so do a lateral flow (positive) and then the PCR come out negative. When I got Covid, it took 3 PCR's to get a positive despite faintly positive lateral flow.

You do another LFT to confirm to yourself that you do indeed have covid. You then cancel your holiday and do a PCR, repeat the PCR 2 days later if the first is negative.

a positive LFT confirms you have covid, a negative LFT isn’t so definitive. It’s rare to have a negative PCR after a positive LfT, though the opposite is more common.

I did actually get a negative PCR after a positive Lft. I had pulled out of an event due to the faintly positive Lft but a PCR done the next day was negative. It took another 2-3 days to get a positive PCR.
