My next unsubstantiated fear is one would of had to qualify for the first payment to receive the next payment.
Even though you clearly mention its unsubstantiated, such glib remarks however true the may or may not turn out doesn’t help.
What about those who loose their job in between payments, or where days late to receive the first payment.
I agree, in addition if that were the case they would just have paid the whole lot in one payment, this way those who didn't get the first payment may be entitled to the second, its a very sensible way of dealing with it.

I saw this update yesterday as well I took it as we definitely won't get it as we also got a nil award due to my partner getting his pay twice in the assesment period either way if we don't recieve it I will be calling uc as this is what it advises for us to do if we think we should be entitled to it.

How does your partner receive their earnings, monthly, 4 weekly or weekly? If it is monthly and they were paid early then you could have asked them to moved the one earnings to the next assessment period. See link. https://askcpag.org.uk/content/205719/uc-and-double-payment-of-wages-new-rules
If it's 4 weekly then yes, receiving earnings twice does happen and there's nothing that can be done about that. It does mean you won't be entitled to the first payment, even if you ring them.

He does get paid 4 weekly and that's why we got a nil award on this particular assesment period but we get a payment the other 11 months of the year, seems very unfair we won't get the 1st payment due to it happen to falling on this assesment period but I guess you win some you lose some however I will still be ringing them as to see if there is anything that can be done, no harm in trying.
UC have nothing to do with cost of living payment. It is direct from the government.
  • I'm a single Dad and receive a UC payment every month and have been for 18months, so was expecting (was desperate for) the cost of living payment help.  In Feb/March my employer allowed a glut of overtime to be worked (end of the financial year) due to the news, I thought I'd best take steps to support myself and my kids. I beasted the overtime leaning heavily on support from my family to watch the kids, my salary in March was such that on the 2nd April I received a nil payment, My salary having gone back to normal in April meant I am back to receiving UC payments of over £100 per month I received this on 2nd May. I've actually worked myself to death for a month out of fear, only for it to actually cost me a NET loss. So the one month in 18 months that could have disqualified me, has.
I cant explain how dejected I feel over this.
I suspect that the second payment will just be a top up for those that qualified for the first and so I'm already excluded again, they have after all told everyone that the help will be £650 split into two payments. Not two payments that people could qualify for separately.  There doesn't appear to be an appeal process.

I doubt that - I would expect the second payment to have different qualifying dates in order to allow to take account of changing circumstances such as yours.

The relevant assessment period criteria is 26th April to 25th May 2022 so if your month ended during this time you should get the payment.

If you got NIL assessment on 2 April this is before the 26th. If you then got £100 on 2 May this is within the relevant period. So I don't understand why you didn't get the £326? Don't forget that you receive the UC payment 7 days after your assessment period ends. It's this date that's relevant not when you receive the UC payment. I assume you got a payment on 2 June too?

The 2nd cost of living payment will probably have it's own criteria.

The payment is made (roughly) one week after the assessment period. as noted earlier in the thread that is the relevant date - not the payment date. If there was no payment for an assessment period ending within the qualifying period there is no CoL entitlement. If poster's assessment period ends on 26th of the month they do not qualify.

There seems to be some confusion (or at least there is to me) about what the assessment periods for Robbo682's UC is. He's given us the payment date, not the assessment period dates. He needs to clarify the actual dates. The NIL period he mentions seems to fall before the qualifying dates.

Because it's a whole month 26th April to 25th May (inclusive of the day) then everyone's assessment period will end within that period, just depends whether they receive any award or not. As an example, if their assessment period ends on the 25th April they will catch this on 25th May. If it ends on 26th March of the month they will catch this on 26th April.

I don't understand this part.  EDIT: oh, unless you mean they catch the qualifying period.

You say everyone, but it's only people who were already claiming as of the 26th April.  People with new claims started before the date of the CoL payments announcement but after the 26th April would have their first APs end outside of the qualifying period (e.g. AP running 27th April - 26th May, or later).
