Money Moral Dilemma: Do I need to keep chasing someone I owe £1,000 to?

    Some good advice here, particularly Sandtree on the limitation act and accounting. No morality from me but As this is a business related question then tax is an issue and a major headache if you get it wrong - VAT (perhaps), subcontractor or employee tax (perhaps), profit tax (definitely). I’d suggest “marking” this issue up to mention to your professional advisors at their periodic review (monthly/quarterly/annually).

    I would recommend trying twice more and then leaving it, as it is up to them to invoice you and they do have 6 years to do so, as has been said. Your accounts should show this sub-contractor as a creditor.

    If they are VAT registered then they must give you a VAT receipt by law, but if they are not then a simple hand-written receipt with would suffice, so you could call with them and give them a cheque or cash and get them to write out a receipt.
