I’m told by British Gas they have supplier issues with the delivery of these meters and they will put me on a waiting list. This doesn’t provide any confidence in BG as they are supposed to role out a number of meters to customers each year. Can’t give a date if delivery and Ofgem suggest changing supplier to obtain a smart meter, impossible at this time and the meter is necessary to install solar panel!

What you'll most likely find out is that they can get the meters quite easily but they struggle to fit you in for an appointment - ie all the slots available are currently booked so you've been placed on the waiting list and will probably receive one in a few months.

There was a report in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph that a number of suppliers are struggling to order sufficient smart meters to meet their role out targets because of the World-wide chip shortage.0
