Smart meter issue?

Can anyone help?
I have a smart meter to keep an eye on my usage, I live in a 3 bed bungalow with my partner, he works away all week and I work 12 hour shifts so during the week our usage is very low. Our energy company went bust so we are with British Gas in standard tariff.  My smart meter has me using £3-4 and the energy usage tool on British has website says my usage for 1-25 june is £72.07 yet my bill for 11 days has come in at £72.66? British Gas have no explanation just keep saying the meeting readings are via smart meter and they are correct, I’m at a loss what to do next! Surely the smart meter and bill should be the same? Am I missing something?
what is the average usage for a couple who are never home?

    Welcome to the forum.

Are you really talking about the smart meter or the IHD, a small device that is sitting somewhere in your home?

How did you get a bill for 11 days? BG has a 6 months billing cycle.

If this is for gas then what you see on the IHD is an approximation as it has an inbuilt figure for Calorific Value...    The actual bill uses the consumption as recorded by the meter itself  but a more accurate figure for CV
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • You need to check that BG has used the correct readings from your smart meter. IHDs can often show incorrect costs because the supplier has failed to push the correct tariff information to the meters.
