Energy Providers
Good Afternoon, New to the Forum today. Have the Energy Suppliers still been putting up the price of our Gas & Electric before the official increase in October? I ask as in the last couple of days (all of a sudden as such) Our Smart Meter has started to go into the amber or red zone when boiling our kettle. (before it had increased somewhat, but, now a big surge). I would appreciate if you have had this experience.

Unless they were charging less than SVT and you weren't on a fix, then no.
Your supplier will be able to tell you your tariffs if you don't know.1 -
What do you mean with "still been putting up the prices"?
Energy suppliers are not allowed to charge more than the cap on the SVT, next change for SVT will be on 1st of October, so no price increase before this.
There are a few exceptions
- "standard variable green energy tariff Ofgem has exempted from the cap" for example Ecotricity and Green Energy UK
- You have switched to a fixed tariff. There is no cap on fixed tariffs
I assume you are not talking about your smart meter, but your IHD (in home display)? What type of budget have you set there? One possibility is that only recently the unit rate shave been updated to the April prices.
Is it maybe just a warning that you are currently using a lot of energy? A cattle with 3000w would show up as extreme energy use, but it is only for minutes.0 -
Could be your IHD has been displaying the old pre-April tariffs until recently.
Although the actual Smart meters will be correct, the IHDs were updated separately and several suppliers have taken a long time to adjust theirs.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Your IHD will display your tariffs. What are they please ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Suppliers update the tariffs in the GSME and ESME ( the gas and electricity meters). The comms hub contains a gas proxy meter which converts gas volume to kWh (using a fixed kWh conversion). The comms hub establishes a home area network which the IHD is connected to. The information displayed on the IHD comes from the ESME, GSME and the gas proxy meter. If the tariff information in the meters is incorrect then incorrect cost information will be shown on the IHD. I am not aware of any supplier that sends out separate tariff information to their IHDs.Alnat1 said:Could be your IHD has been displaying the old pre-April tariffs until recently.
