Fixed tariff or not
Hey. I've read Martin's advice on whether to fix or not. However I'm not sure the advice applies to my situation. My electricity is on a fixed EV tariff with octopus until November.
My gas is with shell on a standard rate as my previous supplier went bust. I've been offered a gas fix by octopus which is 60% more (11ish p compared to current 7ish I'm on). Should I stick as per the advice or is it worth considering with gas use being v low now and much higher after the next rise in October? Thank you and apologies if this is a simple answer!

can you give accurate annual consumption figures & the exact kWh & standing charge prices? Also term & any early exit fee?0

Hey thanks buff.
No exit fee. Im paying 7.34p/kWh, 27.22p/day standing charge on the variable tariff, and could fix to 11.75p/kWh, 27.22p/day standing charge fixed for 12 months. No exit fee to switch.
I was paying £30/40 a month on gas which covered it before the price increases so come October guess I'd be looking at at least double that.0 -
As you're already with Octopus, have a look at Tracker V3 for gas, it has a max of 11p/kWh (should stay at that for 12 months from date you start) but as it changes daily based on market rates, it can be lower. It's 6.4p for me today. SC is same as SVT.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Solar PV 5.25kWp SW facing (14 x 375) installed Mar 22
Lux 3.6kw hybrid inverter and 9.6kw Pylontech batteries
Daikin 8kW ASHP installed Jan 25

My electricity is with octopus but not my gas. I'll see if the tracker V3 is an option for me!0

The no exit fee is a plus. If the £30/40 per month is true (actual kWh figures would be a better guide) you are not a heavy gas user. However, what they are offering doesn't seem massively cheaper than what is currently being forecast for October's SVT increase & you would be paying those higher prices (albeit at probably the lowest gas consumption period) for the next 3 months if you opted for it now ...tommse said:Hey thanks buff.
