Replacement Storage Heater
I have to replace a thirty year old storage heater and must admit these new models have me baffled.
The Dimplex Quantum has been recommend but some questions:
Can you turn of the fan on these models?
Is the fan assist really that useful, convection will do the job after all, it strikes me that if you force air through the heater there will be less at night when it is needed most?
Is biggest best and then just don't turn it up full if you don't need it?
I assume the bricks are better now and a storage heater of the same size would store more heat?
Is it good value for money?
Many thanks for any help you can give.

As I can't edit yet I should add, do these fans make a noise?0

I believe the new types are so insulated that there would be very little heat released without a fan running. You can still buy used or refurbed old style storage heaters for a very reasonable price i.e around a couple of hundred quid and they are extremely easy to fit even for a none DIY person as opposed to the to £1K+ for a new quantum style which may require new cabling connected to the daytime circuit to run the fan.0

It makes a faint noise - I suspect it is quieter if the heater is mounted absolutely square on the wall so the fan runs as smoothly as possible - ours is very quiet, others have said that they find them a little intrusive. (I'm pretty sensitive to background noise in general so ours MUST be OK!)
There is a thread running on the quantum heaters - I'll find it and add a link.
Opinions seem to vary - I personally get on very well with the one we have - and as and when others need replacing would cheerful replace with more quantum models. Because of the lack of heat-escape overnight it works out FAR cheaper to run than the older more basic ones we also have - as it requires less heat input for more heat output at the times it's required.
