Electronic passport lanes at Gatwick - Seek assistance

The last couple of times I have returned to Gatwick I have had to present my passport several times at the electronic readers.  This time I tried two different booths and many scans before I was permitted to enter.  I saw quite a few others receiving the seek assistance message.

I have not had this issue before, so are the readers more picky than before or is it something to do with my new Bloo passport?

Probably just the quirks of the e-gates.

Very rare I used to get through (usually at MCR) with my old passport, yet Mrs K never had a problem. Used new passport only twice, once successfully, once not. I blame technology/Boris/Covid/Brexit/the price of cheese/the big boy who did it and ran away (delete as appropriate) :)

It sometimes has taken a couple of times trying at Heathrow with my blue passport.  But it's not a UK one so I don't think I can blame Boris as much as I would like to, nor Brexit.  Happy to blame it on the price of cheese.....

It could be a simple as a handprint left on the scanner by a previous user.

I thought you only had 3 attempts (in the same booth) before being referred to a human? That is my own experience.

Or removing your glasses or hat!  The idea is your face matches the passport photo image.

Glasses or not don't seem to make a great deal of difference

Last year I saw  passengers trying to get through the electronic gates at Gatwick with hat, sunglasses and face mask on and then getting very annoyed when they couldn’t be recognised by the gates -

    - Not saying this was the case for OP -
Same here, it was rather amusing.

Glasses/hat off, enter gate, mask off, gate opens, mask on. It shouldn't be too difficult, but obviously it is ;)
