Yellow weeds in lawn

Options
Our lawn is covered in patches of weeds with tiny yellow flowers
What are they likely to be and how do we get rid of them?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Quite a selection without a photo.
    Several common ones.
Essentially use a weed and feed in early autumn just before it rains.
That way it shouldn't hurt wildlife as it will be washed straight in.

Is it Black Medic?  Ours has lots - not so bad on the lawn but it takes over my vegetable patch and cracks on the patio.

That's the culprit yes - its taking over the lawn
    or it could be Commelina

I think you're got two there.
Don't cut the lawn too low - though that may sound counterintuitive - the grass will grow stronger and stop unwanted wildflowers taking over.
A good nitrogen feed would help too. You have that for free if you feel so inclined. Or buy some simple stuff.
Nettles soaked in water, dilute in watering can too.
