i was switched to scottish power 4 months ago when my supplier went bust , i am on a prepay meter and have been for 15 years yet today i got a letter from scottish power stating i owe them 105.00 as i have not been putting enough on my prepay meter to cover what i use , this is absolute poppycock as you pay for what you use in advance and if you dont put enough on you get cut off , it seems theres nothing i can do about this wth ofgem for 8 weeks so it seems i am stuck

Welcome to the forum.
1. Ofgem is not dealing with single customers, you need to contact the Ombudsman.
2.. Did you raise a formal complaint? The 8 weeks only start once you have done a formal complaint.
3. Did you maybe load a lot of money onto your meter before 31st of March as originally advised by Martin and others? This advice was withdrawn later when suppliers said they will/can increase the rates in arrears backdated to the 1st of April.1 -
Also - does this actually state your meter number and is addressed to you? And is it definitely from SP themselves - rather than from a company claiming to act on their behalf? It could be that it's just a "fishing trip" letter where they are trying to find an old occupant of the property, or someone with a similar name to yours, for example.
If in doubt that it applies to your current energy supply then send the "Prove it" letter - details can be found on the Debt Free wannabe board.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

no i did not , i never have under 50.00 on my meter anyway incase i cant get to top up for any reason one week , they are telling others that they are not putting enough on the meter to cover what they are using which is rubbish as your meter would turn of if that was the case , it appears now they are also not allowing some people to change supplier even though they only owe small amounts when ofgem clearly states you can change supplier as long as you owe less than 500.00pochase said:Welcome to the forum.

yes its to me they sent an itemized bill with weekly meter readings , which is odd as well as nobody has ever been to read my meter and i dont have a smart meter , and a second leter stating i have a 105.00 debt which they are taking at 8.00 a week through my meterEssexHebridean said:Also - does this actually state your meter number and is addressed to you? i have always been on a repayment meter you dont run up debts on these that is the point of them , so how i can owe 105.00 after 4 months with these is beyond mefrugalmacdugal said:Hi,is it maybe a debt from your old supplier?0 -
