Should I leave SSE?

Hi,
Newbie here! We’ve been with SSE since 2017 on a Standard Tarrif, for the first few years never had any real issues.
Since Lockdown, they keep hiking our Direct Debits, we have had several threats of action being taken against us for not submitting meter readings when we have and it’s shown on our account, they have booked appointments for Smart Meter installations without my consent and taken Debits before the agreed date. They currently have £1300 of my overpayments of debits sitting on my account yet they still draw a debit each month and at times I cannot even log into my online account for at least 24 hours.
I have never missed a payment and the last payment they took too early nearly incurred me charges by my bank.
I want to switch, but am concerned.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you 😊

Can you back to pre-lockdown say to the March 2020 bill -  were you in credit/debit at that time ?  What was the meter read - was it actual/estimated.

Have you been in the habit of reading your meter every month ?

On your bills there will have been notifications of increases in DD -  .

  • Hi Robin,
    Thank you for replying.
I was in credit pre lockdown.
I generally submit the readings every few months when they email to ask for them.
(The cupboard where my meters are aren’t the easiest for me to get to and my health doesn’t help).
They have always told us about changes to our debits again via email.
I’m more concerned and upset that they are holding all this money of mine and won’t refund it, they are making appointments for people to enter my home to install equipment I’ve not given consent for and sending threatening emails about missed meter readings when I’ve actually submitted them when asked.
The last one I actually had to come back from a holiday as I was so worried and scared they were coin to take action.
I want to change providers and have no problems with getting a smart meter installed, just not with these cowboys.
I just don’t know if it’s best to make the change and what the best tariff for us is?

    Thank You 😊

    A few questions.

When was your last bill? Were the meter reading s your readings or estimates?

What is your usage for the last 12 months? What was your credit on that bill? What are your up to date meter readings?

@Chimumma  You haven't really got much option re new suppliers. You could try Edf by phone  -  they generally only bill every six months - their variable monthly DD is an option but beware very, very large winter bills.

How do you submit your monthly reads -  by the online account/phone/email?
