Self Adhesive Velcro

Is Self Adhesive Velcro - suitable for a permanent use
Does the adhesive actually set - or just stay "sticky" ?

If stuck to a hard surface like plastic it should stay in place for a long time. By sticky do you mean like electrical tape? Self adhesive velcro glue is more like a contact adhesive.

Yes, - it's very gluey and wondered whether it set solid

We used to use this loads at work for displays and it worked really well.  I bought some off Amazon to hold up a self made blind to itself.. eg blind was hanging on a rail and I just wanted to fold up the bottom and hold it but the self adhesive constantly failed to hold the weight and became unstuck... disappointed.

I have used it to keep my greenhouse cover on and it seems to be working wonders as long as the surface you use it on is clean and prepared properly.

I had mine from Hobbycraft as they had different sizes available. x

I have some that hasn't been used but is at least 20 years old and is still sticky. If it was going to harden I would have thought that it would even though it hasn't been used. (Glue in an unopened tube often hardens with time, and the sticky side of Velcro is open to the air at the sides.)

It won't stick to material though!!
My wife needed some to adjust the waistband of her kilt and it didn't stick

In my experience the sticky backed Velcro should only really be used for very light duties. So sticking a photo to a felt board it's fine, but using it as a fastening such as your wife's Kilt no it won't work. In that situation it's only real use would be to gauge where you needed it to be before sewing it on, There's usually a thin strip down the side of the Velcro that's wide enough to be sewn on.

Look on it as more a Sellotape or insulating type of glue than anything permanent.

I've had some and it was rather stiff. In the end I couldn't remember why I had bought it and sewed it onto some furnishing item. I don't think it was that sticky- we are talking years later! I have avoided it since, just use the bog standard especially if available at cheaper outlets.
