Boat instead of a house

I'm currently looking into buying property avroad and renting it out as holiday homes. Which has given me another idea. Boats are much cheaper to buy than houses in the UK but weekly rental rates are about the same. However, I'd like to go through a boat "property management" company. That's where the problem starts. The only companies I can find on the web that deal with canal boats and other boats, all seem to own their own boats.

Does anybody know of any companies that will handle the cleaning and maintaining of a boat and maybe even the marketting and rentals of the boat owned by someone else (ie. me).

  • Would you want to do it on a time-share basis ? I know there are several companies doing this, and they look after all the cleaning and admin etc. Otherwise I don't know of any who would look after your boat and rent it out for you.

I've heard loads of bad stories about timeshare schemes with boats so I'd rather avoid that.

I can't believe that there isn't a company out there doing this for people with the same idea as me. There's plenty of companies doing it for land based property.

    Yes, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you can't find a boatyard that is offering the kind of thing you want, what about looking for an individual to do it? You could place an advert in Waterways World and see what happens.
