Suspicious Refund - EON

Hello, I lived with my ex partner in a house we jointly owned between March 2020 and January 2022. During that period, our energy was supplied by EON for both gas and electricity. We recently got an updated bill stating we are due a £3000+ refund. Initially, I thought it was a scam but logged into the EON account and it all seems legit. My ex partner also rang to query and reports that EON confirm our account is in credit and we will be receiving a refund. I calculated we paid around £950 during the time they supplied us, so we are definitely not due a refund of this size. I can’t corroborate it as the account was in his name so they won’t talk to me on the phone. Other than having to rely on his word (which easy being that he is now my ex partner) I don’t know what to do. I wouldn’t be able to repay it if they came asking for it if I accepted and spent it. But also, a bit of money to help with the cost of living would be nice. I am trying to get support through Citizens Advice, but wondered if the forum might have any ideas?

Sounds as if the new occupiers have read the meters incorrectly for their opening read !
  • That’s what a friend thought might be the case. I’m just curious why this is only happening now! 5 months later!
