Fibreglass Insulation — How to Dispose of?

Options
Hi all,

During our reroof, we’re looking to throw away all our old ceiling-level fibreglass insulation (damp in places, compressed, just old), and then replace with new fibreglass insulation.

Where can we dispose of the old insulation? Can it be taken to the local tip (for free)?

Thanks in advance!

It's unlikely you'll get rid of that amount of insulation for free. After all, it's virtually indestructible and will probably end up in a hole in the ground. Different councils and their private operators will have different rules, but when I enquired 8 years ago, it was 'trade waste' at the minimum rate for bulky stuff of £100.
Ours was quite decent material, just in the way, so I eventually recycled it to tenants with tight landlords. The cost was diesel for the van getting it to them. A government scheme re-insulated our loft for us at zero cost 3 years later when we'd finished the refurb. Not sure that can be done now!

I'd expect it can but check with your local tip. Different areas are likely to have different rules.

Bag it and take it to your local dump/recycling centre.

In typical blag bags, then simply into the "household waste" skip at the centre?

Mine was friom a bungalow, so one hell of a lot of black bags, had I used them. It was about a dozen dumpy bags worth and absolutely no chance of dropping that off without comment, but as I said, local conditions will vary.

When you sell your tiles give them a free bag of insulation with every 10 tiles they buy.
