Putting a cooler hood in existing kitchen - options?

Hi all,

Just in the process of buying a house.

Kitchen overall is in a good condition, however doesn’t not have any sort of extraction, no cooker hood etc.

Currently above the hob is a small sort of horizon cupboard.

Ideally I’d like to put some sort of cooker hood in it’s place, however this wall is not an outside wall and venting to outside would be quite difficult, so from what I understand a ‘recirculating’ hood might be what I need instead, is this correct?

Also, can I install an intergrated cooker hood into the existing cupboard that recirculates? Or best of finding a stand along cooker hood, take this cupboard out and replace?

Also who’s the tradesperson I’d need to out this in? Assuming just an electrictian , or a kitchen fitter?

Any suggestions most welcome, all new to me!

Are you sure there is no extractor there? We have a cooker hood (recirculating) which is hidden within a built in cupboard over the hob.

Yeah, we had a second viewing a few weeks ago and definitely no cooker hood or extractor in the kitchen. Just an empty cupboard at the mo!

A recirculating hood will help take some of the cooking smell away as the filter traps it. It won't help with the steam / smoke from cooking though

'Recirculating', as said above, is very much a compromise. If that is the only solution, then it might be worth doing research to see which models work best - you'll need all the performance you can get (depending on your cooking methods).

It's very possible to run 'flat' rectangular ducting along the tops of wall units, pretty much hidden, to get to an outside wall at the side - could this work for you?

The flat rectangular ducting is probably the best option for most extractor hoods - You get a much better air flow than you would with the flexi hose. Better performance, less noise, and there is (hardly) anywhere for moisture to collect and act as a breeding ground for mold.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Indeed, don't waster your money on a recirculating hood. Had one and it was a waste of time. When we remodelled our kitchen, we were lucky enough to be able to move the stove to an outside wall and had a "proper" extractor installed by the builder that did the work, who was also a qualified electrician.

Agreed. Also, they are MUCH noisier when recirculating. Ours, unusably so.
