Energy cap

I’m not sure whether to fix a deal as nobody can tell me if the next hike is likely to be mainly on units or if standing charges will also go up like elec did in April - any ideas?

Current overall prediction from Cornwall-Insights is 51% overall.

My calculation from the prediction is no standing charge increase, which means gas around 70% and electricity near 50%.

And you will only get a final info the day Ofgem announces the official new cap.
  • Also worth noting that energy providers do not have to go as high as the cap. Prior to the market going nuts a few offered below the cap, so I guess it will depend on when they bought their energy and how they have hedged some may be able to offer just below the cap. Last year many were caught by the sudden increase but as time goes on they can adjust their strategy and by not allowing new customers can pretty much work out how many will be on the price cap from October.
