So I have my phone (Galaxy S10) set up to store photos on the SD card.

I got part way through creating various albums & moving photos to them before stopping & not finishing the job.

I've since picked up a Galaxy S20 with view to sell the Galaxy S10 to one of these online companies.

I had a look about setting the new phone up & was directed towards Samsung Smart Switch. Bit of Googling about it & it looked superb. Bit too good to be true so carried on reading to find that transferring the photos doesn't seem to go too well - it puts them in a jumbled order rather than date order.

No problem I thought - everything is on the SD card. Let me plug it in & check.

Do this to find that when I'm transferring photos to the albums, they're on the internal storage.

So how, when you're creating albums, can you create them on the SD card so that when you move photos to these folders (on the phone), everything stays on the SD card?

Or is the only way to do this is on a desktop PC? Creating folders on the card & dragging & dropping photos? Would that even work?

I have just started using Google Photos and I have an S20. Your photos start out on your device (PC or phone) and you can upload them to Google where they take up part of your 15GB allowance, unless you buy more space. The advantage of having them on Google is you can share them with others. I'm a bit confused about what you part did and what you are now trying to fix.

That is probably because you were talking about...
    Google Photos
    upload them to Google
    15GB allowance
    buy more space.
The advantage of having them on Google
None of which I actually mentioned as it wasn't what I am doing.

Unhelpfully, the phone labels it's internal storage as SD card....I'm guessing that's where the confusion arises.
I just transferred stuff for my Wife from S8 To S21 FE using SmartSwitch and it worked like a charm.

    Hmm, that's an interesting one.
I want to say are you sure, but that'll sound like I'm calling you out for being wrong which I'm actually not doing. So let me explain...

If I connect my phone to my PC & access it that way via explorer then as I click through I'll get 2 options:

    Internal Storage
    SD card

    As in 2 different folders.

In SD card are loads of photos I've taken... SD Card>DCIM>Camera

Interestingly though, in SD Card>DCIM>xxxxx .... xxxxx = a folder I've created on my phone to put photos in for a legal case I've got going on right now.

However if I go Internal Storage>DCIM>

There's the list of all THE OTHER folders I've created on my phone - the exact same way I created xxxxx folder which somehow turned up on the SD card.

In Internal Storage>DCIM>Camera - the only files in this folder are videos I've saved off TikTok.

As for what my issue is with the above in case anyone else winds up confused - I want all photos & videos saved to the SD card. I don't want to have to transfer anything, it should just automatically be saved there.

And to be clear, when I've read about Samsung Smart Switch, the web pages say they it does switch everything over & most of it very well.
Just it doesn't order your photos very well. They'll make it over fine enough, but not in any kind of order.

So then when you're looking for something & you know it was a photo from April 2019 for example, you're knackered. It's needle in haystack.
Is what I read anyway - and many people were complaining about this.

Which is another reason I want everything auto-stored on the SD card.

Fingers crossed nobody is confused any more :)

How many replies did hongman get to that question back in 2014?
Just curious how many answers are showing up on your screen.

But yeah I should probably take a trip over there to see if I can get anywhere.
