Joint Account disclouser

Options
Hi can anyone help - I am setting up a joint account with my partner just in readiness for us to live together and pay bills etc. We will each have our own accounts and just put an agreed amount in each month. My question is - will he see any loans or balances I have in other accounts (not with this bank). My credit rating is good but I don't want to see what he has and vice versa?
TIA

No. He will only see his own credit files. Lenders will be able to see both.

Great thanks - we aren't looking to take out any credit together so all good.

I guess I really wanted to know if any finances would be available to see at the point of opening the account?

You won't be able to see each other's other accounts no - obviously, you'll both be able to see the status of the joint account.
It's none of my business, but keeping finances secret from each other seems a rather odd way to start out on a - what presumably is intended to be an open, honest and long-term - relationship.  That's your business, of course, but just seems a little strange to me.

You might not be planning to take out any joint credit, but once you link your credit files by having a joint account then both of your credit files can be used when either of you apply for credit, even if solely in one person's name. It's likely he'll find out eventually if he gets rejected for things he should otherwise have been eligible for.
