Is it just me that's not sure what to do with my gas & electric direct debit?
I was paying £42 on my previous deal, rising to £90-odd next week when my tariff changes. I'm £200 in credit and with the £400 coming from the government later this year would it be wise for me to look to reduce my monthly payment to use up some of my credit and decrease the monthly payments too?

It is impossible to advise on this without knowing your usage in kwh. If you are moving from a fixed deal to the standard variable tariff then your increase in direct debit payments could be correct.
Building up a good credit for winter is definitely a good idea, if you put your new tariff details and annual usage on here then there are many good spreadsheet users in in the forum that will be able to give you an idea.0 -
Could you give us details of your actual annual consumptions please - in KWh not £'s. That £42 does sound very low as does an increase to £90.
Are you by any chance billed 6 monthly ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
