My current fixed price E7 deal with EDF ends on 31/07/22 however EDF inform me that no standard variable rate at the current price cap of 28p pkwh exists and I can only go onto a standard variable tarriff of 35pkwh day and 16pkwh night. I only want the single rate capped tariff, are they correct in saying it no longer exists?

No of course there is a single rate tariff. It is most likely just not the 28p you quoted and asked for.
28p is an Ofgem average, regional prices are different. See the current SVT prices for EDF here

First question is do EDF offer single rate with an E7 meter ? Someone in the know will be along to answer that one.And the answer is
How do I change my Economy 7 tariff to a standard tariff?
Just give us a call on 0333 200 5100(1), and we can switch you over to a standard tariff – here's how it works:
You have a smart meter
Tell us you'd like a standard tariff, and we'll make a few changes to your smart meter set-up that will allow you switch. You don't have a smart meter
You won't need to get a new meter, as we can simply 'totalise' your rates. This means you'll pay one rate for your electricity, rather than a separate day and night rate. It may also be a cheaper option, if you have gas central heating and/or use less than 25% of your electricity at night.
