If you look you can find the top end Skodas with full leathers and the toys for less than you will pay for a posh badge. Skoda is no longer the budget brand it used to be. Still cheaper than posh German Marques but they have come a long way.aroominyork said:Grumpy_chap said:
The X1 is quite a small car, especially the boot, really it is just a 1-series on stilts. It does not seem to fit the brief set out in the OP.X1 is deceptive. Inside it is spacious enough but cosier/sportier than the B Class (which we have now, 58 reg, and we were thinking of getting another) but the X1 is externally longer and wider. "On stilts" is good for me because of my height.I will look at Skoda and see if I want to and feel I can make a case. I can always change the badge!1 -

What actually changed as earlier in the thread, you were receptive to the Skoda:aroominyork said:I will look at Skoda and see if I want to and feel I can make a case. I'm afraid the Berlingo and Combo fall down on not being too ugly - they look like I'd be delivering cabbages, as practical as they might be.0 -
I've just traded my car in for a toyota C-hr self charge hybrid car, the car was up for 18,500, obviously paid less in cash due to trade in, I love it, so they are out there if you look0

I had a couple of Foci (in my single days) and loved them, but Ford is another no-no in my household. It was clear to me they blazed the way for a new standard in mid-size, mid-quality cars.

She does realise that Skoda Octavia and Audi A3/4 are essentially the same car doesn't she? Why pay way more for the same car because of the badge? Think of the holidays/shoes/etc she could buy with the difference.1

I am/was quite a petrol head and a it of a badge snob when I was younger, if you had suggested I buy a Skoda 10 years ago I would have laughed at you but honestly I am a complete convert. As others have said these days it is part of VW group, it is essentially an Audi A6 / VW Passat with a different badge and shell on top. Except the main difference is its considerably cheaper!1
