Memorandum of sale and appointing a solicitor

We have accepted an offer on our house. We need to appoint a solicitor but when we're trying to get solicitor quotes they want to know details of a property we are buying. We have seen a bungalow today and made an offer via purple bricks but PB say they want a memorandum of sale. From what I can gather our EA draws that up but needs our solicitor to have been appointed do it. But we don't want to appoint a solicitor until we know if our offer is accepted because we might need to find a different property which might be substantially different in area and price.
What order are we supposed to do these things in?
Help pls.

"Appointing" a solicitor at this stage doesn't involve expense or bureaucracy, you just pick the one which you would be intending to use, and give their details to the EA.2
