Solicitors (even the recommended ones) will only go at their own pace, not yours. So be prepared to chase a lot if you want anything to be done in a reasonable time! Plan at least 3 months for an easy, uncomplicated sale/purchase. We tried to move last year, the sale fell through at 6 months and we decided not to bother, it was so stressful.
We've tried again last month, sold and had an offer accepted on a place, solicitors instructed the same day...they sent out paperwork about a week later for us to complete. We returned straight away, they received and sent draft contracts a week later, they sent for searches straight away. So 2-3 weeks till they actually worked on the file once they knew the chain was complete. I thought that was quite quick to be honest for solicitors!
You will need to chase for updates all the time, particularly towards exchange and completion. I absolutely hate this process, we've moved a few times over the past 5 years so have had a lot of dealings with solicitors, estate agents!0 -
Thank you all for a touch of reality and sharing your knowledge / experiences. I don't mind waiting if I know it's 'normal' - I will chase weekly I think for now and see where that takes me!!0
