Money Moral Dilemma: Should we pass on any of the £400 energy bill grant to our tenant?

    Sorry but the £400 is to help cover the cost of energy, if you pay the gas & electric then yes why not but if the tenant pays it the of course it should go to them. Anyway the £400 is to be paid directly to the energy companies and credited to the accounts so you decision has been made for you and by the sounds of a good job too.

    give them a 1/4 of it (£100) if thats how you deal with standing charge payment. 
    The rent is a separate discussion and deal with that as you will. 
  • Ditto ditto ditto   apart from SuseOrm.  It's about your relationship with your tennant and how   either good or crap you'd feel depending on which way you decide.  
  • Yes you should pass it on - suggest as he pays approx one quarter, give him one quarter of the grant.  Additionally, look at recharging his portion of VAT

    Let them leave as rents are going up where we live. It's not as though they are renting the whole house is it.
    LL's that in that scenario keep the money, good for them. If I was a T and in the MSE scenario, I would not expect the LL to give me the money.

    If I was a T and in the MSE scenario, and the LL kept the money, I would simply stop paying the energy bill until my share had been recouped.

    After all the energy bill is in the LL's name.
  • Absolutely you should give it to them. If you charge them 25% then they should receive 25% of the grant. I’m surprised that this question even had to be asked!
