'Hook and Loop' sanding disks

Simple question. I have a rather old orbital sander (Black and Decket Mouse) - quite small, whose base is a velcro hooks pad and the supplied sandpaper is backed with a softer loops surface.

Is this standard? When I look at replacement disks etc. (I mean for various types of orbital sander - not this one) they are quoted as 'hook and loop'. Does this mean that they actually have both hooks and loops on the back of them?

Just wondering, if I buy differently shaped pads, whether they will stick to the base of that sander.

Cheers.

The fastenings seem pretty much interchangable.  I have used Lidl's Parkside sandpaper on my Wickes sander with no problems.

I'm sure you could slap a shield-shaped bit of sandpaper onto a round sander.  But it may not work that well, and I'd be worried about wearing out the surface on the sander, so new sandpaper won't stick any more.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Velcro is just a brand name for the hook and loop fastening system

This.  It's like people call any vacuum cleaner a "Hoover", any adhesive tape "Sellotape", any ballpoint pen a "Biro".  Unless it's actually a genuine "Velcro" brand, you should, strictly speaking, call it "hook-and-loop".  But of course, in reality everyone just calls it Velcro, no matter who it's made by

Yeah they're all the same, get down to screwfix or toolstation and pick up a load for dirt cheap.
