Japanese Knotweed

Good Afternoon
Thank you in advance for reading this.
im looking for a flat/house with a garden and a driveway, if it comes with a garage even better!!
I have seen a property, in my price range and I was getting very excited then, I went into the garden, and I saw a plant that I think is the dreaded knotweed.
The person who was showing me around said they didn’t have a clue what it was.
This is the ground floor of a Victorian terraced 3/4 bedroom house, and it does tick all the boxes - bar the garage and it is leasehold but with over 100 years still.
With knotweed is there a register, I’ve heard a few stories about it, but don’t know really know anything other than gossip.
Or ultimately is this the freeholders issue, is the buildings insurance going to cover the costs and ongoing costs of eradicating the plant and of course the possible damage to other peoples properties.
I look forward to reading all your comments. Thank you

There is no register. Upload photos and people will tell you. No insurance is likely to cover this especially if it bought it like that.
If it is you will not get a mortgage on it unless it's being treated. Whether you or the freeholder are responsible I am not sure, but ultimately it will be a problem for you1 -
You could take a photo and put in on the greenfingers forum.
If it is Japanese Knotweed ( and there are other knotweeds) then it is treatable.1 -
Thank you for the reply. Selfishly, very handy to know about the register, I can’t see me wanting to move, but you never know what’s round the corner.housebuyer143 said:There is no register. Pic required. There's a lot of harmless and common garden plants/weeds that can resemble knotweed.

There is a 'heat map' of previously reported Japanese Knotweed sightings which you can check, but obviously there will be loads of affected properties that are not on here: https://www.environetuk.com/exposed-japanese-knotweed-heat-mapHippycamper said:
