Re estimates - try putting the readings in a couple of days earlier.  The bill bill have already been prepared before Edf gets your readings

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Gas meters record the volume of gas supplied to your property. The technical answer to your question is this:

Calorific value (CV) is a measure of heating power and is dependent upon the composition of the gas. The CV refers to the amount of energy released when a known volume of gas is completely combusted under specified conditions.

Suppliers obtain the daily CV for the gas supplied to your property from the Grid operator. For billing, the supplier uses the average of the CVs for the gas supplied during the billing period TRUNCATED to 1decimal place; that is, an average CV of 37.75 would be billed as 37.7.

Or simply, it's how good (strong/pure) the gas is on average during the billing period.

  • Thanks for the replies, EDF being above the average at 40.50 then, glad I'm off to OVO, increasing my DD by x3 was the last straw, even got a call from them an hour ago wanted to talk about my account being in arrears (said they were ringing all EDF customers) told her I was leaving and was £153 in credit, had enough.

It's not EDF, it's the gas in the pipes. It would have the same CV if you were being supplied by any other supplier.
