Refund pending delay

I am trying to track down a large amount of money that was supposedly paid back to me by solicitors in 2013. As proof this was paid I was sent a copy from Barclays which says refund pending delay. Does this mean the money was sent to my bank as I can't trace it because it was so long ago or is still in the solicitors account?

 After such a long period of time I very much doubt anyone is going to have a record of the transaction.  What have the solicitors said happened to it ?  What do your bank statements show ?  As it is more than 6 years you have very little recourse.

Solicitors' accounts are highly regulated. Client money is always kept separate from the firm's money in designated client accounts. Both the firm's and client accounts are reconciled on a daily basis by cash office managers and that is reported to a senior partner. It is impossible for an unreconciled "large amount of money" which was meant to be paid out to remain lurking and unaccounted for in solicitors' accounts for longer than overnight without action being taken to identify and rectify the problem - and it would be treated as a big and very urgent problem - and absolutely not for nine years.
