We had a "window wizard" that wanted to charge £275 to adjust the hinges on some french doors. He proudly said it would only take him an hour.

They're probably something you could do DIY, the handles are really easy to replace even if they're in the locked postion.

I would spend a little time on YouTube figuring out what you need to do and do them myself.

I guess you are living in the north as in London that is a bargain. For one handle they'd charge at least 80-100 around here

If you are ok at diy - see a vidoe as easy to remove, ID the handle and look on eBay etc. I've changed them, a couple but it was moving one that is used a lot to another window that is hardly used as the one that was used a lot became wonky. Couple of screws but refit in same position.

Btw, just remembered. I've even fitted the main lock on one of those double-glazed artificial wood doors this year as the latch started to jam. I looked at many youtube videos the hardest part was ensuring I got the correct replacement lock.  It is a security lock about 7 inches long and 3 deep. The locksmiths wanted between 200 and 300 quid. a Diy man wanted 160 inc lock.

I got lock for 45 quid and carefully fitted it within the hour as I was being very careful, 45 quid. That was 50 times more complex

So look up the vids, ID the handle and I'm almost certain that anyone can do it that is ok-ish at dIY
  • thanks for the replies, yeah the handles are easy enough to change 2 screws, its the mechanism i cant get to as its a upstairs window and its under the window i cant get to, if i could i would changed that aswell myself
and yeah i`m up north, going to tell the repair man to replace the mechanism and thats it (£35 trying to rip my eyes out)

Anywhere near Northumberland?  I moved into a bungalow and there weren't any window keys, a local man with ongoing great reviews on fb changed the handles on 8 windows for £100.
