.exe files on Chromebook - workaround?

I've found a few slideshows I made years ago which i saved to USB stick and we'd love to watch them again.  However they're .exe files and nowadays we both use Chromebooks. IIRC they were made using a thing called "Pictures To Exe" and on a Windows machine they just play when double-clicked on i.e. the file doesn't install anything first.

Is there any kind of relatively straightforward workaround I can use to run them on a Chromebook?
We're all doomed

Typically, this conversion would make not much sense as exe (executables) rarely hold pictures (JPEG for example). Nevertheless, under some circumstances exe to jpg conversion may be possible. The most common example would be a self-extracting archive (.exe) that contains one or more compressed pictures (.jpg). In this case, executing the file in Windows environment should yield your files.
    Hope this helps.
  • The simple answer is no. Dot exe files need a bunch of Windows .dll's (and other stuff) in order to run which you don't have on your Chromebook.

You could install/run Linux on your machine and install a Windows emulator like Wine but I wouldn't call that "relatively straightforward".

No guarantee it'll work in your particular situation, and it's a Windows app so you'll need to find a Windows computer to try it on, but:

I remember the program - very useful to bundle a series of jpgs into one exe file that you could distribute to eg family and friends. Then they just run the .exe and see a slideshow of the bundled jpgs.

Google 'how to run exe files on chromebook' for options.
