Nat West did a hard search on meMarky4040 said:htcclub said:After trying to increase my overdraft with Lloyds, they did a hard search even though it says verbatim on the application page "This application won't affect your credit score"
Few days later, I started an overdraft application at Natwest, DID NOT click the final button to agree to the T&Cs and a hard search was done by them anyway. Called them up, asked if they had a record of an application (recorded the phone call) they said: "NO we have no record of a completed application, just a started one, you wont get a hard search". Hard search shows up few days later.
To add insult to injury both banks did 2 hard searches each on the same day. So 4 hard searches on my report for this month.
Reading through the forums seems like this happens all the time, have no clue what to do now. I suppose I'm just supposed to forget about buying a house for 3 months! My life has been put on hold for so long, just focusing on being cheap and saving money. Can't believe these nonsense scamming trash banks. Total scum.
Currently on the phone to Lloyds, surprisingly they seem like they are looking into it.Hi There, they've no reason to lie to you so if they say they haven't done a hard search or you did not click the "submit" button it's highly unlikley they will have gone ahead and done it. Could you just check the seraches are definately listed as "an application for credit" or just identification searches? When you start an appication for a mortage, an ID search is done in the background just after you've entered your personal and address details, a hard search is only done at the end when you choose submit. Just check these are ID searches not credit searches.
I have never had any contractual relationship or given any such permission so this proves they are perfectlably capable of doing unauthorised searches
It turned out that my partner who does have a Nat West account had been offered some kind of automatic overdraft and Nat West took it upon themselves to breach GDPR and search me.
I made a fuss and they kindly gave my a token amount of compo which was nice

So Natwest one should come off soon.
Lloyds - where do I start.
Rang twice, both times the caller did a thorough investigation and couldn't find anything that would have triggered a hard search, saying my last hard search was 2018.
Queried the hard search with Experian who sent something off to Lloyds. Lloyds in response to Experian: refusing to remove the hard search saying 'requires further investigation please call xxxx' Number provided was a solicitors number, the person had no clue why I was calling.
More confusingly, the hard search type was set to 'Agency Account' which baffled each person I spoke to at Experian, and the code for which part of Lloyds the search came from also baffled the agent, apparently he said the search came from Halifax or Lloyds Group (not bank)
I am sending a letter to Lloyds data controller telling them to remove the search or tell me what it was for. (I didn't mention the fact I recorded all the calls of them admitting they should not have done hard searches, keeping that in the bag for now for complaint and ombudsmen)
Wondering if I should press Experian to get more answers from Lloyds on what the search was for and maybe to put a notice of correction. Also wondering if this is a GDPR breach?0
