It really does work too. And comes out so hot. And I leave it in oven while eating dinner and as oven is still hot for a bit once switched off, it keeps it hot ready to wash up with.
It don't fill the whole washing up bowl, even when topped up with cold water but it isn't far off the top. It is certainly enough though to do all washing up left from the morning b.fast and evening dinner dishes. I'm not sure how much £ I will be saving each year doing this now as not done the sums. Be interesting to work out.

I use the oven to heat water while only cooking dinner at same time. I don't put it on just to heat water. I just utilise the oven while already in use.
    I got that :)
It's still likely to cost a bit more than using a kettle would.

I agree, if the water is in while cooking, it will use more energy than the oven would otherwise (oven has more cold things to heat).
Even worse if oven is opened to put the water in, part way through cooking.

It may appear to use the same, as the oven isn't turned on for any longer, but it will be powered for more of the time while on.

If however it is only put in after food is taken out, while oven is off, but has residual heat, that is a using otherwise wasted energy.

The oven is only on for the duration of the dinner though? It would be on that amount of time anyway regardless of if the bowl of water was in or not.

The bowl of water goes in at same time as food. No door opening half way through to put it in.

If the oven is set to a certain temperature, surely it won't exceed that temperature to try and heat cold water.

I'm sure you understand that the oven stops heating when it gets up to temperature, then will click back on and off at times during cooking to maintain the set temperature.

Because there is more to heat in your oven, food plus a bowl of cold water, the oven will need to heat up for longer to reach the set temperature as some of the heat generated is going into the food/water.

And the extra bowl/dish the water is in.
