Looking for recommendations of travel insurers for childcancer patients please.
Planning on booking a holiday to go to Italy or France six months after treatment finishes i.e. in a year’s time.
Any tips gratefully received.
Thanks

Much depends upon the type of leukaemia and the expected result of the treatment. I can see that people with chronic myeloid leukaemia do appear to be able to obtain cover even if in a few cases the leukaemia is excluded from the insurance. I know that Leukaemia Care is helpful in providing general guidance. There is a Leukaemia Care message board on Facebook.DustyBlues said:Looking for recommendations of travel insurers for child leukaemia patients please.Planning on booking a holiday to go to Italy or France six months after treatment finishes i.e. in a year’s time.Any tips gratefully received. Thanks
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
In this quarter's Leukaemia Matters magazine, there is a lady called Sophie Wheldon who can help with travel advice.DustyBlues said:Looking for recommendations of travel insurers for child leukaemia patients please.Planning on booking a holiday to go to Italy or France six months after treatment finishes i.e. in a year’s time.Any tips gratefully received. Thanks

With leukaemia myself, I am very focused on these matters. I frequently read about ALL and know that the success rate in children is very good. Treatments are advancing quickly. Do you expect your child to be off-medication when you expect to travel? I would have thought that you will not have difficulty with travel insurance in these circumstances but it is well worth contacting the expert at Leukaemia Care.DustyBlues said:Sterlingtimes - many thanks for your suggestions. Type is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. 90% success rate given age at diagnosis 🤞
P.S. Sophy Wheldon (above) reports that she was diagnosed with ALL and received chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and CAR-T therapy. She is in remission.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
The 27-month long chemotherapy treatment finishes in December this year. Hopefully that will result in remission without resorting to stem cell or CAR-T therapy. We would only go on holiday abroad if in remission. So there won’t be any medication at that point, just regular blood tests over a five year follow up period. Thank you so much for your guidance and comments. I will definitely contact Leukaemia Care on Monday.1

It will be a mercy if the chemotherapy alone results in remission and without the need for medication. In these circumstances, I cannot think insurance would be denied. Wishing you all of the best.DustyBlues said:The 27-month long chemotherapy treatment finishes in December this year.
