How to calculate percentage change in energy rates

I am trying to follow Martin’s advice about fixing if I am offered a rate of about 35% higher then the cap. I am struggling with the maths. Can anyone help me? Do I take my current unit rate and add 35% to that ? And do the same for the standing charge and for electricity?
Thank you

You need to work out your actual usage over the year and then calculate how much you would pay for that usage on your current rate versus how much you would pay on a fixed rate.  If the difference between the two is less than 35% then it's potentially a good deal for you.

how much that would cost you on the cap versus how much it would cost on any fixed deal.
  • For clarity - this is assuming your current rate is also on the Price capped variable tariff. If your coming of a Fixed then you need to compare the Capped rate to whatever fixed you are being offered.
