  • Another +1 for a Password Manager.

I do not know the password to any of my accounts. And I have many.

I just need to remember the one to access the password manager.

There is a risk though. If I was to forget that password, I would have to spend a lot of time trying to regain access to accounts I cannot access via biometrics.

I also personally do not record that password anywhere but in my head.
  • It might be worth looking through the accessibility (or equivalent) menu in your phone. I can only speak for iOS (though Android must have the same functionality) but there are numerous options for enlarging the size of text on the display, zoom functionality, modifying how the keyboard responds to your inputs e.g. “slow keys” on iPhone, voice control and many more.

It’s also possible to enlarge the keys on the keyboard via the “display and brightness” menu under “view” (again, on iOS).

I would suggest having a play around in the relevant menus to see what might work for you.

Would recommend LastPass as a good password manager.

Writing down a password in code any good?
e.g. "Terry's house number, Dad's car reg" with a special character if needed.
It'd be tough to guess 45JZT% for example!

Used to use Lastpass, but since they changed their free model I switched to Bitwarden which is a better solution and has more free features.

Having once been hacked, I can’t recommend a password manager strongly enough. I had an account with financial information hacked as I had inadvertently used the same password on another, less secure site that had a data breach. Having someone gain access to your credit card details is a nasty experience and a lot of hassle. Fortunately, the financial loss was small and my credit card company spotted it.

Apps like 1password and others mentioned increase overall internet security enabling unique passwords on all internet accounts. Some services provide additional features from vpn, two factor authentication, secure document storage and perhaps most useful the ability to check your passwords for reuse, vulnerabilities due to data breaches etc. In 1password’s case, it supports biometric id and enables you to print out emergency recovery details to be kept somewhere physically secure.

Use a password manager, either free or paid for.

Then you will have "One password to rule them all".

That is too short and could be brute force attacked. You really need to be at a minimum of 12 characters and every site should be unique else if one site gets hacked then they have your password for all sites using that password.

That is some of the other good features of Bitwarden (and some others) in that they can tell you if an email / password combination is on the black market due to a site hack, and also where you are using the same password on multiple sites.

Hopefully in a few years time passwords will be less of a problem as Microsoft, Google and now finally Apple have come onboard with the FIDO passwordless initiative and will be implementing passkey systems in future versions of their OS's.

Still free if you are willing to only use it on mobile/tablet devices or only use it on PC. So it would work for the OP.
Personally, I migrated to Keepass. No cloud storage of the password vault (so you have to keep it up to date across your devices by whatever means you choose), and plenty of options for apps to read the password vault across platforms. Open source. It is, however, not for the non-technical.

No need to compromise on platform or technical ability when Bitwarden has it all covered and is also open source.
