Kitchen cabinets painting?

In our house the kitchen is made from solid wood and is in very good condition considering it's around 8 years old. As it's very strong and sturdy we are thinking of getting it spray painted by professionals in a different colour rather than replacing it.
I have seen many companies offering that the painting service and it does look good. But what I would like to know is from those who have had their kitchen cabinets painted, how does it fair over time?
Obviously a lot depends on the company who did it and how well you look after it. But generally how durable is it?

It depends not only on the company who do it, but the quality of the paint they use.We had a bespoke kitchen several years ago and I repainted all the cabinets during the first lockdown. It was a huge amount of work dismantling the units and sanding them down. I brush painted them with Valspar paint and the finish was acceptable. After two years, they are beginning to show signs of wear. If I do them again, I would go for a better quality paint, but don't know what that would be.

Have a look at the Frenchic Fan page on facebook, many people have successfully painted both MDF/wood kitchens.£216 saved 24 October 20141

Our kitchen cabinets (tulip wood with mdf centre panels) came unpainted from Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch. I painted them myself with Farrow and Ball eggshell, using a combined primer/undercoat first. Four years on and they look as good as new 🙂
