So the 2nd garage have looked at the car.. coolant is leaking in two places, from the water pump it's ****ing out and from the thermostat housing.

Said if you look underneath the left hand side of front of car it's pouring antifreeze out. Can't say if engine damaged seems to run OK but shouldn't be run like this.

So I've left the car there to be repaired next week.

I showed the first garage last week the areas I thought were leaking and they said it was just water from the air con. If my engine is damaged would I have any recourse from the first garage?!

I think the coolant was pooling on a metal plate under the car?

If the engine has/had the correct colour/type of coolant then it should have been apparent to them it was not a.c. condensate.
Unless all the original coolant was lost and you topped up/filled with water only?
Even so, they should have been able to determine the "water" was only coming from the condensate drain and not elsewhere.
Hopefully it's only a matter of a new water pump and 'stat housing and/or gasket.

So the water pump and thermostat housing were replaced along with all the coolant - this was a week ago. The car has seemingly been running OK since.

The coolant level dropped a bit initially but I topped it up as instructed by the garage. The oil looked ok though it was quite low and I topped it up.

I've checked tonight and it's dropped a bit again so topped up. But I don't know if I'm imagining it - doesn't look very clear. I'm worried something is wrong, oil still looks ok, thanks for your help.

Edit: says online if you shine light directly above pink G12 coolant it looks orange? maybe the little black bits are old gasket bits?

Level of coolant dropping a few times is normal.
Changed the water pump and coolant on mates Prius.
Next day needed about a pint of top up.
Two days later, half a pint.
    Nothing more in 8k miles.
