Upgrading the barclaycard foward

Hi folks,

I've had the Barclaycard Forward for 18 months now and want to upgrade to the platinum 0% 24 but not sure If I'm able, has anyone done this?
I can upgrade to the Rewards credit card but honestly, it's not worth the time, the cashback is extremely low and don't think it's beneficial in the slightest.
Thanks

Wouldn't the poor rewards be better than no rewards?

I converted my platinum card to rewards for that very reason.
  • The Rewards card is good for a small reward plus free foreign usage.
If you aren't planning to use abroad or use something else abroad, try to get the free Avios card.

Platinum is really almost their standard product. The 0%  for 24 months may be just an introductory offer for new customers as BA has not allowed a secondary card account for a long while now. This means that existing customer that were even allowed to product change from another card would not qualify for the introductory offer (balance transfer offer are available from time to time to existing customers but normally have shorter period and a larger transfer fee). They way to qualify again for such an offer would be to close your Barclaycard account and only apply free a full 6 months gap.

if you want/need to retain the account for history, the Avios or Rewards card are better options to swap to. Both my wife and I have 2 Barclaycard each from a time when this was possible. We decided to change one of mine to Avios and one of hers to Rewards (as a back up FOREC Free card on a Visa Circuit, to the several MasterCard option we currently have). Avios can be converted to Nectar point at a fairly good value if travelling is not your thing (max value is to use them for flights, long haul, premium cabins)

You'll only qualify for a 'card change' if it's shown within your app. To move from the Forward to any other card shown in your app, your current terms and conditions will remain the same (APR/Credit limit). If you want a Platinum with the interest free period, and it's not showing as an option in your App - you'll have to close your existing card, wait 6 months, and then apply again and see if you qualify. (You may not - even after having your Forward for so long).

I started with a Forward - and year on year they drop your interest slightly if you manage the account well. I then moved over to a rewards card, and it doesn't happen anymore - so I queried as to how I might reduce the APR (as mine is still around 27 percent) - and they said there's no internal process that allows them to do so. The only option is to close, wait and re-apply. It's not a deal-breaker for me, as I pay in full every month, but would be nice to have a lower APR in the background in case it was ever needed.
