Easy question. To change or not to change?
What is the general guidance around this:
- Leave it as is
- Call EONNEXT and lock into a new fixed deal
- Start looking for a new provider
I tried the cheapenergyclub comparison and found nothing that was better than my current variable tariff.
Thanks for the help

The general guidance is that you choose the tariff that you're most comfortable with. Think about things such as -
What are the fixed deals you're looking at?
Do you want to to overpay now to potentially save in the future?
Which new providers will take you on - and what are their rates?
How risk averse are you?
There's no single answer - it depends on what you want.

Just called EONNEXT who provided me the following data:
Variable
Electric28.02 per unit
42.24 standing charge
Gas
7.34 per unit
27.22 standing charge
vs.
V14 Tariff Fixed
Electric38.37 per unit
42.24 standing charge
Gas
9.84 per unit
27.22 standing charge
Right now it seems like the variable rate I am on is the cheapest however, the transparent guidance from the EON rep was that come October, the price is likely to rise again and being in a fix at that time may make more sense.
I guess I could remain as-is and then fix over the next 2 months but given the small increase over the Variable rates, it might be worth fixing in now? I guess it comes to whether we can extract gas from the North Sea between now and October.Thoughts?
p.s. I am a low elec/gas user.

the question is easy, the answer is hard ...
It all comes down to your own usage/circumstances & what type of person you are - do you like certainty or are willing to live with a gamble?
You also will have at least £400 coming from the gov. too. which should soften the blow anyway.0 -
Have a read of the following link, and note that the information in the table it includes is updated regularly and includes the tariff you asked about.
Is it time to fix my energy bill or should I stick on the price cap? (moneysavingexpert.com)

Looks like that's the tariff they've already been offered to me ('V14' referred to above), just with a different unit price and standing charge due to likely being in a different region.bristolleedsfan said:Worth asking Eon Next if you can have you can have :

Ive decided to wait out the summer months as the Variable rates are better than the fixed rates. Ill re-evaluate at the back-end of August.0
