Re-Roofing grant

Hi, could anyone tell me if it is possible to get a grant for a roof replacement.. i have applird  for quotes via checkatrade and had my roof inspected and the ony way to fix it is a full strip and replacement. If i had had it done a year ago I could have afforded it but with the recent rise in building materials and a further 19% due in july i no longer have sufficient funds and as i retire in 3 weeks money will be even tighter. I have been told that it may be possible to get a grant to help with the cost .My roof is 90 years old and worn, i lose tiles or sustain further damage everytime there extreme high winds, the roof cannot be repaired as the tiles are obsolete and  with the felt which is and cracking and falling down inside the loft exposising the tiles the only option is a full replacement i have so far been quoted approx £13k....many thanks

My roof is of a similar age. Whilst the tiles are indeed "different" to modern ones, it is still possible to get hold of replacements. A building reclaim yard often have suitable tiles in stock. Currently having my roof stripped, felted, and retiled (using as many of the originals as possible).

If you are being told that you have to have new tiles, be careful. If they are quoting for concrete tiles, you need to ensure that the roof and upper part of the building can take the extra weight. But I would be very wary of checkatrade quotes and any tradesmen from that type of site - A decent local roofer does not need to use that type of web site to get work - Much of it will come from recommendations and/or working relations with established builders. Get your yellow pages out, and give some local roofers a call.
They will be busy and probably won't be able to start any major works for at least three months (usually a good sign that they will do a quality job). For a strip & reroof a typical 3 bed semi, I'd be expecting something in the £6-8K range depending on where you are in the country (London rates, much higher).

I do not know of any grants available for this type of work - Your local council may offer some home improvement loans if you meet certain criteria. But I doubt a reroof would qualify for any loan/grant.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I had a quote for my mid through terrace a couple of months ago. One was a company that had done work down the street - £11.5k, the other was through a mate's mate who had done some repairs for me before - £9.5k. Both were for a full strip of the roof and reroof using usable existing tiles and replace like for like. The quote also included recladding the dorma and fibreglass roof to dorma. Both said it would be 3 months before they could start work.
I doubt there are any grants available, unless your on benefits or your local council has any schemes (unlikely). If you are looking for a trader, look at your local council/trading standards websites. We have a check a trade type website in my area that is operated by my local council and there's no shoddy traders paying to get on types. "All traders are checked and vetted"
