I want to ensure I am going to be on the best EON tariff with direct debit but the problem is, EON are basing my future bills on the the previous owners usage.  I am certain mine is going to be lower as I believe they over-used energy.
Should I stay as I am on 'pay as the bill comes' for another couple of months to get a better idea as to future usage?  I do not have a problem going onto direct debit.  I don´t want to miss out on any price caps.

Your future bills will be based on your future consumption, so if you use less you will pay less.  It is the estimation of the monthly Direct Debit payments that you are concerned about, but you won't have any decent data until January at the earliest.  For the next 3 months it will make little difference as summer consumption should be low.

If you can afford to do so (as in expect much bigger bills in winter) ask to be put on the variable DD. That way you are only billed for what you use but also get the reductions that come with paying by Direct debit.
  • Thank you both.  I have gone onto direct debit at £100 pm with variable rate.  Will see how it pans out and can increase the amount once I fall into the red.
  • Hi,
hopefully, depending on usage, you will build up a surplus heading into winter.
