Crazy price for a house needing major refurbishment

This property layout is  exactly the same as mine was before previous owners moved the bathroom upstairs and knocked through to create a lounge diner.  A similar but fully  refurbished property on my road has just sold quickly and the asking price was almost the same as the advertised asking price for this one.  2 bedroom terraced house for sale in Tower Hamlets Road, London, E17 (rightmove.co.uk)

Some people prefer unrefurbished properties so they can be done to their own exact taste rather than what someone else chose - and some sellers are over optimistic in asking price.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yes I know that some prefer unrefurbished ones.  I prefer potential to a house with white walls and laminate flooring throughout. That isn't the issue. This seller is very optimistic.....   I will be interested to see what they get for it.

Sometimes owners want the same price for a property in need of complete renovation, as a seller would ask for one in good condition.  It may seem absurd but with a shortage of properties and a lot of money swilling around, someone will buy it. There are always people around who can spend multiple hundreds of thousands renovating London properties....And hasn't Walthamstow been quite desirable amongst young families for the past decade or so?
