Should I fix my British Gas energy tariff or not ?

should I fix my tarif ? What does anybody think ?

Comments

  • As long as the actual kWh usage figures are accurate, check your old bills, then as the fix is only 27% above the SV rate and with the predicted rise in October and little change next April, I think it's a good deal.

It definitely feels counter intuitive to pay more than you need to now. But if you take a 12 month snap shot of where they think prices are going in October then I would say it's a decent deal, especially if you like certainty. I'm working on the assumption that the fixed tariffs on offer will get progressively less attractive as October approaches.

I've been offered this but don't see how paying more for 5 months makes it a good deal?

  • @marcia_ what 5 months are you thinking of ?

The next change to the cap is on Oct 1st, exactly 3.5 months away and the OP's current fix ends on 30 June, so as long as BG allow a change then, it's only 3 months.

The April 1st 2023 change is unlikely, on current predictions, to fall back even the level of the fix being offered.

These months leading til October should be the months you use least energy unless you have 24/7 Aircon and a hot tub 🤣

As an example we would use 12% of our total energy for the year between now and 1st Oct.

    Something to think about.

TY i thought it was end of oct and was offered this a couple of weeks ago.
Still means my DD almost doubling.
I read it might drop again in April but not by how much
