    You were quoting the 37.98p from your current supplier  Eon Next, and than you said that Ovo only offered a 37.33p go away price. For me 37.33 is cheaper than 37.98p.

    Nobody will offer you a rate below the current cap, and only EDF and Octopus might let might let you join on SVT if you call them, the suppliers are not interested in new customers they are losing money on. Octopus seems to become hesitant to accept new customers, people need to call repeatedly until they find an agent who still lets them join, and the fixed tariffs they offer are really bad.

    Not sure when EDF would let you switch to a fixed tariff, but their fixed tariffs range from ok to awful, and it seems to be random what tariff they offer.

    The price @superpang was offered is a deal for existing customers, no chance you will get that as a new customer.

    With the current prediction of 40p to 42p the 38p might be soon not that bad. Of course nobody knows what October will bring until Ofgem announces the new cap.
